چکیده
Abstract Appropriate fertilization practices play a crucial role in the maintenance of genetic diversity within captive fish broodstocks. We assessed influence vitro storage gametes (0-, 7- and 14-days post-stripping) at 1 °C on ovarian fluid pH, sperm motility, embryo viability critically endangered Finnish landlocked salmon ( Salmo salar m. sebago ) population. A repeated full-factorial design used both sperm-ovarian activation analyses fertilizations allowed us to separate effects female, male their interaction gamete quality survival across times. The pH decreased most significantly during first week showed considerable variation among females. decrease motility varied males, females male–female (sperm-ovarian fluid) combinations. mean proportion viable embryos was initially 96.4%, but dropped 45.5% after 7 days, 13.1% 14 days storage. Embryo responses time predominantly increased among- within-female also major differences between female × combinations (non-additive effects). Interestingly, virtually complete re-ranking (change order) full-sib families two times r s = − 0.03) consistency last 0.59). Overall, our results indicate that even when primary aim is maximize populations, it may be advisable prioritize minimal egg rather than maximizing number parental fertilizations.

Toxicokinetics of waterborne bisphenol A in landlocked salmon (Salmo salar m. sebago) eggs at various temperatures.
Eye-pigmented eggs of landlocked salmon were exposed to waterborne [14C]-labeled bisphenol A at four temperatures (2, 6, 8, and 12 degrees C). Both in accumulation and depuration experiments, the eggs were exposed to a bisphenol A concentration of 1 microg/L for 196 h. In the depuration experiment, the exposed eggs were placed into clean water for 96 h. At each sampling time, the eggs were diss...

Distribution Th e species’ range encompasses Europe, North America, and Green land (1) (Fig.1). Non-anadromous forms occur in Europe in a few land-locked locations in Norway and Sweden, and throughout the Neva/Lake Ladoga system and Karelia regions of Russia. In North America non-anadromous forms occurred throughout most of the species’ historical range, as far west as Lake Ontario, and remain ...

The present study compares developmental changes in plasma levels of growth hormone (GH), insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) and cortisol, and mRNA levels of their receptors and the prolactin receptor (PRLR) in the gill of anadromous and landlocked Atlantic salmon during the spring parr-smolt transformation (smoltification) period and following four days and one month seawater (SW) acclimatio...

Juvenile Atlantic salmon from a landlocked population (‘Blege’, lake Byglandsfjord, south– central Norway) and an anadromous population (river Vosso, southwestern Norway) were reared in freshwater on simulated natural photoperiod (60j25VN) between December 2000 and June 2001. Fish from the Blege (mean length: 13.4 cm) and Vosso (mean length: 13.9 cm) strains were transferred to seawater tanks i...
متن کاملImmunoglobulin Isotypes in Atlantic Salmon, Salmo Salar
There are three major immunoglobulin (Ig) isotypes in salmonid fish: IgM, IgD and IgT, defined by the heavy chains μ, δ and τ, respectively. As a result of whole genome duplication in the ancestor of the salmonid fish family, Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) possess two highly similar Ig heavy chain gene complexes (A and B), comprising two μ genes, two δ genes, three intact τ genes and five τ pseu...
